Core Build-up

The build-up procedure aims to restore the tooth's structure and provide a stable foundation for the final crown, improving both aesthetics and functionality.

A dental core build-up is a procedure performed to restore a tooth's structure that has been significantly damaged or weakened. It involves the placement of a filling material within the tooth to provide a foundation for a subsequent restoration such as a dental crown.

Preparation and Foundation

If the tooth has extensive damage or lacks sufficient structure to support a crown, the dentist will prepare it by removing any decayed or weakened areas. This involves the removal of decayed tooth structure, old fillings, or any other restorative material. After preparing the tooth, the dentist creates a stable foundation for the core build-up. This may involve removing additional tooth structure to ensure proper shape and retention of the build-up material.

Use it Right

The selected material is applied to the prepared tooth, usually in layers. Each layer is carefully placed and hardened using a curing light or other appropriate methods. The dentist shapes and contours the build-up material to mimic the natural tooth's anatomy and functionality. Once the core build-up material has hardened, the dentist further shapes and polishes it to ensure a proper fit with the future restoration (crown).
