Dental Lab Gypsum

Dental lab gypsum, also known as dental stone or dental plaster, is a specialized material used in dental laboratories for a variety of applications. It is primarily used for creating dental models, casts, and other dental prostheses.

Types of dental lab gypsum:

·Type I: Also known as impression plaster or mounting plaster, it has the highest strength among dental lab gypsum types. It is used for pouring dental impressions and mounting casts on articulators.

·Type II: Known as model plaster or dental stone, it is commonly used for creating study models, working casts, and denture bases.

·Type III: This is a high-strength dental stone used for creating removable partial denture frameworks, crowns, and bridges.

·Type IV: Also called die stone, it has the highest strength and density. It is used for creating highly accurate and durable dental dies for fabricating crowns, bridges, and other dental restorations.

Mixing and setting:

Dental lab gypsum is mixed with water to form a paste, which is poured into molds or used for articulating dental casts. The water-to-powder ratio and mixing time vary depending on the specific type of gypsum and the desired consistency. Once mixed, the gypsum undergoes a setting reaction, during which it hardens into a solid form.

Color and compatibility:

Dental lab gypsums are available in different colors, including white, yellow, and blue. The color variation allows for easy identification of different types or batches of gypsum. It is important to ensure compatibility between the gypsum and the impression material used to avoid any adverse effects on the accuracy of the final cast.
