Polishing Strips

A dental polishing strip, also known as a dental finishing strip, is a dental instrument used for interproximal enamel reduction and polishing. It is typically made of a thin, flexible material, such as plastic or composite, and comes in various sizes and grits. The strip is used by dental professionals, like dentists and dental hygienists.

Uses for dental polishing strips:

1.    Interproximal enamel reduction: Dental polishing strips are used to gently remove a small amount of enamel between adjacent teeth to create space or improve tooth alignment.

2.    Polishing: After dental restorations, such as dental fillings, are placed, the rough edges of the restorative material may be smoothed and polished using dental strips. This helps to enhance the aesthetics of the restoration.

3.    Removal of stains: Dental polishing strips can also be used to remove extrinsic stains and discolorations from the tooth surface, resulting in a brighter and cleaner appearance.

Key features of dental polishing strips:

1.    Grit: Dental polishing strips are available in various grit levels, which determine the coarseness or abrasiveness of the strip. Common grit levels include fine, medium, and coarse, each serving a specific purpose during dental procedures.

2.    Flexibility: The strips are flexible to allow ease of use and to adapt to the contours of the teeth.

3.    Material: Most dental polishing strips are made from poly or metal and are designed to minimize potential damage to the tooth surface.
